US Corvette Sales In A Slump

Cars Direct reports that Chevy will put a hiatus on producing all orders for 2018 model year Corvettes until September, perhaps in part due to the Corvette sales drop in the United States this year though officially the pause is due to plant upgrades, more specifically a new paint shop.

Maybe Chevy dealers need to give Corvette buyers a bit more incentive because sales doesn’t seem to be improving with a May sales decline of 5.2% compared to last year. Same with June and it seems to be getting worse. July was no better when you look at the numbers released by GM Authority, a 10.61% drop to 1,930 car deliveries compared to the 2,159 vehicles in 2016. At the end of last month, around 15,637 Corvettes were delivered year to date, a 7.07 percent drop.

With slow sales and 2016 production levels, there’s an excess amount of Corvettes sitting on dealership lots and General Motors has been doing their best to move product, handing out discounts up to $8,000 off of Z06 and Grand Sport trims.

Interestingly enough, Canadian Corvette sales are on the rise with a staggering 76.35% increase in July compared to the same time last year. Maybe Canada is a yet untapped Corvette market and if the numbers keep increasing Chevy may decide to give those of you up north first dibs on the new C8 Corvette.

This is what happens when any car maker lets a model run on for so long without any significant changes. These have stayed the same for a while and don't have that big of a market, compared to something like a wrangler that even in its 8th year of being on the market and reaching the end of its cycle could still see great sales.

GM has been lacking, better not continue that on with the C8.

Some may be tempted to pick up the older gen Corvettes if the incentives really are as amazing as they say and get the C8 later on down the road. I'd be interested actually, depending on how good of a sale it is.

Could also be a really good time to get one if you want to make a profit because if the next vette is as different as we're hearing then this C7 will be iconic... the last of its kind from Chevy. Just the first few years of driving a new C7 could be essentially free.

Depends on how much of a change we'll see between the upcoming C8 and the current outgoing model. There may be buyers who are willing to pay a bit more for nostalgia if the previous model is far removed from what you'll be getting.

Or they'd be more than happy to move on to the C8 if it really does have an LT5 V8 engine. Nostalgia is great an all, but if the new iteration outstrips the older model by a large margin, people are more willing to move on.

Assuming Chevy is still offering attractive discounts for the outgoing corvettes, sale could be on the rise. I've actually been seeing more corvettes recently compared to last year. Perhaps I'm now more aware of the model, but the former explanation seems more likely. May actually check with my local dealerships to see how much incentive they're offering to get rid of the Z06.
