Chevy Released Mid-Engine Corvette C8 Teaser At Dealer Meeting

Chevrolet is said to be currently hosting a dealer convention in Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas. Nothing special until someone in attendance claims the automaker has released a teaser of their upcoming mid-engine Corvette C8 in their general session presentation.

Nate Chandler of Van Bortel Chevrolet in Rochester, New York, said Chevy showed two teaser images of the upcoming model. Though not much was revealed in the renderings and they only described as a “super car”, the vehicle’s design gave it away as it “definitely looked mid-engined”. From what he could see, the car has a short hood similar to what you’d find on a Lotus and the front facia reminded him of the new 2019 Corvette ZR1.

Unfortunately, photos and audio equipment were not allowed, so we’ll have to conjure up an image based on what Chandler can recall. Aside from the images, Chevy did not offer up any further information on the potential powertrain options and specs.

At least we definitely know the Corvette C8 won’t be powered by the new twin-turbo 4.2-liter V8 as Cadillac president Johan de Nysschen shut down that rumor quite fast. A shame as the engine is already delivering 550 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque in the 2019 CT6 V-Sport.

Hard to imagine what the new Corvette looks like just based on that description without having it look like a monstrosity built from other bike parts. How does something look mid engined?

In other Cadillac news it turns out that we might be seeing the XLR make a comeback in a very special way, of course sharing the mid-engine C8 platform.
Scary part is this might be a low $200k product to start if rumors of a $170,000 C8 are true.

So far here's what one artist believes it will look like...

I hope GM learned from the last time they tried to launch a corvette based coupe, it didn't go over well and just appealed to those that just wanted a sporty 2 door caddy.

I think GM will find at that price point, that the interested clientele will be very limited. In an odd move the company has also decided to pull the plug (pardon the pun) on their only hybrid model, the CT6. Not sure why they are continuing to develop those kinds of platforms as that's clearly the direction the industry is heading.

It must not be selling very well, and we've seen just how luxurious newer electrics/hybrids are from non premium brands. The Cadillac ELR was well ahead of its time, but it also failed to gather much of a consumer base.

The ELR was extremely expensive, and they tried to introduce a premium hybrid during a time that adoption rates for EV's was still fairly low. The bechmarks have raised significantly, even on entry level models and I think that's why GM has realized that the CT6 will be a tough sell.
