2018 C8 Corvette ZR1/Zora May Get A LT5

Corvette enthusiasts will already know of the Katech name, they’re the performance tuning company that provided GM Raving with the LS7.R small-block V8 engine and recently the company has listed the 2018 C8 Corvette ZR1/Zora with a LT5 engine on their site.

Readers of Torque News emailed the publication to let them know about a page on Katech’s website which outed the C8 Corvette ZR1/Zora’s model year and its engine designation. The page has since been removed but the cache view shows us that the page was online on July 15, 2016. This removal lends credibility to the possibility that the C8 Corvette ZR1/Zora could be sporting a twin-turbo LT5 V8 engine which is rumored to be capable of dishing out around 750 HP.

Also, Katech is known to have major ties to General Motors so their words shouldn’t be taken lightly; maybe they’re already in the process of developing a tuning package for the rumored LT5 V8 or they could be helping GM develop the LT5 V8 engine itself.

This rumored Corvette and engine pairing has been circulating for a while because back in 2013, GM reapplied to trademark the LT5 name and a year after becoming the rightful owner of the LT5 moniker the manufacturer filed to patent the Zora name too.

As a side note, the banner rendering could be the first official picture of the mid-engine C8 Corvette or at least the concept model of it since the hood is sporting the Zora badge.

Nothing is official yet and Katech could have published known rumors but, there is a chance that they know the exact specs of the C8 Corvette ZR1/Zora and have mistakenly released it on their site. Only time will tell if there’s any truth to this leak.

I will be so happy is the C8 Corvette can produce the full 750 HP instead of having the LT5 V8 engine tuned to produce less power.

And that may be the concept model's rendering! Not sure how that arrow shaped hood vent would work but I'm sure the chevy designers will figure it out.

750hp would be absolutely crazy. Especially with twins sitting there. That torque curve is gonna be interesting as ever to see.

Can't wait to see one of these run the quarter

How do you think the torque curve will look like? huge output right from the beginning or a steady incline?

I think it'll be high from the beginning but have a nice inclined curve to it. The original LT5, although we don't have dyno sheets, spins up to 9200rpm which is just insanity for the time that it came out.

Made peak power around 8500 I believe though

For the life of me, I can't find the LT5 dyno sheet anywhere but I didn't find out that it made 550hp and 450ftlbs at 8500rpm.

7200 rpm already sounds good, I can't imagine what what a newly tuned LT5 that can hit around 9200rpm would sound like.

Nope, literally only the NCM has the dyno sheets, and legally, no one is allowed to sell them and are actually under lock and key lol

Big news! According to The Detroit News, the C8 Corvette will be officially unveiled in early 2018. Probably at the Detroit motor show and then maybe going on sale early 2019. That's more than a 2 year wait so I may looks into leasing something before then to fill the gap.

Seeing as it'll be an occasional driver for me, I don't mind waiting in the mean time but thanks for the update !!
