2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 to beat Nurburgring record

After revealing of ZR1, Corvette Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter announced that ZR1 will try to break Nurburgring's record with the seven-minute barrier being the ultimate goal. Such a speedy flying lap would not only make the new Corvette ZR1 the fastest American car ever on the 'Ring, but also faster than the Nissan GT-R Nismo, the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT R, the Porsche 911 GT3, and the Lamborghini Aventador Superveloce.

The car will be powered by a supercharged LT5 V-8 engine putting out 755 horsepower and 715 pound-feet of torque, and surely helped along in its quest by the ridiculous 950 pounds of downforce generated by the redesigned front splitter and massive rear wing, and the new Corvette ZR1 will be able to top 210 mph. I'm really exited to see ZR1 on the Nurburgring and hope that Corvette will set up a new lap record for Nurburgring.

What do you guys think, will ZR1 beat Nurburgring's record or not?

I think the Porsche 911 GT2 Rs is the current lap holder at the Nurburgring with a lap time of 6:47.3 so the new Corvette ZR1 really will need to break the 7 minute barrier is that's the record they're aiming for. Or are they talking about their own Corvette records?

You're actually right. I just found that there are a few more cars that have beaten this record already.

6:52.01 Lamborghini Huracán LP 640-4 Performante (2017)

6:55 Porsche 918 Spyder

6:59.73 Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce (2015)

They might want to get into this "under 7 minute" segment and beat Dodge Viper ACR (2017) with its 7:01.3 and 7:08.679 of Nissan GT-R NISMO (2015).

I heard that Porsche might be on track to release a GT1 911 like what they had many years ago and if that is the case then it could mean a record holder that makes it very hard for other car makers to catch up.
