3 possible variants?

Another 'insider' claims to have unreleased information around the upcoming C8. This person refutes the earlier Zora moniker and says that it will be called the Manta Ray. They also report that there will be two distinct high end variations aside from the base model, the Grand Tour and Grand Sport. https://www.carscoops.com/2018/12/in...hree-versions/

Quote:
The Grand Tour version will be a more luxurious derivative, designed with the help of Cadillac. The plush version of the C8 Corvette will feature things like acoustic glass, heavy sound deadening and special wheels and tires in order to make the new Corvette a “true cross-country tourer”.

As for the Grand Sport, it will play the role of the performance flagship in the range and will be offered with different optional packages, depending on how track-oriented you want your C8 Corvette to be.

After seeing a GT3 version (only for professional racing leagues or serious individuals) I'm confident we'll see some of its influence on road going versions.

We always knew there was going to be more than one version, and I'm just glad that GM will be giving the C8 its own unique nameplate. Still curious how each will differ in terms of power output, because that article references a nearly 300hp gap.

C7 ZR1 really showed how serious GM was in raising the bar.
Prior to that no one would dare challenge any entry-mid level supercar out today with a Corvette.

About that...

some say saving the best for last is best, but its an old automaker practice that's dying out. We needed the ZR1 much sooner which could have put the Corvette line up as a whole in a more positive spotlight.

Interesting that GM is mulling a track oriented trim when we have already seen the C8.R being tested. This does almost confirm that it wont be a road legal model, which follows what we saw on the C7.

I'm just wondering what the demand for the C8.R will even be like if the top end C8 does deliver around 1000hp. My guess is that it is going to be a whole lot more expensive as well.

C8.R is for racing leagues only so unless you have millions and a dedicated team for your heavily organized track days, it shouldn't concern you.

It hasnt been confirmed to be track only yet, thats just been the speculation. Look at what Merc is trying to do with the AMG Project One.

Compare video's of the C8.R to race cars and you'll get an answer to that

Just to make it road legal will cost as much as a regular C8.
